A Thrifty Find Party and a Give-A-Way!

Rhoda over at her Southern Hospitality blog is having a "Very Favorite Thrifty Find" party today. I wanted to post this morning BUT I had to run to the other side of Pittsburgh to my sister's. Allison is staying there for 5 days and when I dropped her off yesterday, I FORGOT to leave her booster car seat! We didn't figure this out until I was about 20 minutes from home and I wasn't about to turn around go back at 10 o'clock last night! I got up this morning and made the long drive this morning. AND...while I was there, I decided to do some thrift shopping in her neck of the woods. I picked up a few finds and I'll share those at a later time but for now let's get to the party!

Let me just say here that I LOVE thrift shopping! I am not sure if it's the good deals, the interesting finds or the bringing of life back into once discarded treasures. Whatever it is, I'm hooked!
I'm going to be a rebel and share 3 favorite finds instead of just one.
First, I bought this child's rocker about 6 years ago at a yard sale. My boss passed the sale on her way to work, came to work, picked me up and then we went on and "errand." You've got to love that kind of boss!
Anyway. This is the after picture. Unfortunately, I didn't get a before picture. I didn't even think about it. It originally was red vinyl that was ripped. The cotton filling was coming out and it smelled of mildew. It was disgusting but it had good bones. It was sturdy and I saw it's potential. My Mother-in-law worked for a furniture store reupholstering furniture before she retired. I was hoping she could help me out here. I took the chance and picked it up for $8.00! I was so happy when I found the fabric. I wanted a vintage feel and this was perfect...and best of all, it was on clearance so it only cost me $4.00! As you can see, my Mother-in-law did an amazing job. There wasn't a removable cushion before but she made the seat separate just in case Allison had an accident during potty training. The bottom of the cushion is vinyl so she would only have to make another cushion cover in case of an accident. Allison has loved her chair for the last 6 years. It's her favorite reading spot.
This next thrifty find is something I put together for Allison. I have a big covered cake plate that I keep cupcakes, brownies, cookies and treats in. The dome is heavy and awkward for Allison. Before we have a broken dome and a cut little girl, I picked up this cheese dome for $0.25 at a yard sale and then found the plate at Goodwill for $0.99. It's the perfect size for her little hands. Not bad for $1.24!
Even though I haven't completed the project below, I had to share this find. I've been looking to replace our dinette set in our kitchen for some time. I knew I wanted something older with low profile chairs. It's a small eat-in space and I didn't want to be climbing over chairs every day. I picked these 4 chairs up at a Knights of Columbus yard sale by my parents' house. We didn't plan on going to the sale but stopped on our way to someplace else. They were packing up but I saw these chairs. The man asked me if I wanted all four. I told him it would depend on what the price was. I had in my mind that I wanted to spend no more than $20.00. Well he must not have wanted to pack them up because he asked me if I had $2.00...for all four!!! I couldn't run to the van fast enough to get my purse! Now all I need is a round old table. Wish me luck!
I hope you enjoyed my thrifty finds. I have LOTS more to share but I need to finish them before I show you. I am the queen of taking on more projects than I can possibly handle. My mind never stops so I keep adding more projects to my list but I don't have enough time to do them all. I am hoping when Allison goes back to school, I'll have time on Wednesdays to do them. Stay tuned!
Now on to the Give-A-Way!
I've been wanting to do one since it was my 3 year blogging anniversary in July. When I started this blog, I didn't think of where it would take me. I didn't think if anyone was going to read it. I just did it for me and for Allison. I wanted to document my thoughts, my feelings, and my life for Allison. However. This blog has turned into more than I could have imagined. I have learned so much about myself and in the process, I have met some awesome women through it. Not to mention the things I've learned from those women as well. Their blogs are truly amazing. I encourage you to check some of them out.
To thank those of you who read my blog, I put together a little package to give away to one lucky woman. To enter the drawing, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Everyone can play. This could be the first time you've read my blog or the 100th time. It doesn't matter.
Everyone is welcome!
I'll leave it open for 1 week and next Thursday, August 14th, I'll pick a winner. I'll be picking it in the evening after work so be sure to check back to see if you won!

The gift package includes a package of beautiful rose note cards with robin's egg blue envelopes all tucked into a matching box, a package of Wind & Willow White Chocolate Cherry Cheeseball & Dessert Mix (Yummy!), a vintage fan dresser vanity tray, a vintage woman's handkerchief with yellow roses (my favorite) and blue flowers and a red rose vintage style pin. Have Fun! Pin It

I love the idea for your little girls cake plate. I bought the cutest little miniature glass cake pan that would make a pefect cake for the cake plate. I bought it at an estate sale. I'm anxious to enter your give-away also. Thanx so much

I can NOT believe you got those chairs for $2! That's pretty incredible.

The little girl's plate is amazing. Just this week I saw another post on those glass domes being recycled for other uses when they lost their "mates" (cheese boards, I reckon) so now I'm totally hoping to find one (or many!) to add to my vintage plates. Thanks for sharing!

Cindi, I have known you since you were in 4th grade, what an awsome woman you have turned into. First of all you are a wonderful mom, and you have always been there for Susan and Stephanie, helping Steph with a number of school projects. You have a naturale nack for decorting and a good eye for bargains and fixer ups from thrift stores amd yard sales. Keep up the great work, Curtis and Allison are very lucky to have you.
